Key Responsibilities: 
  • Individual Therapy: 
    • Conduct one-on-one therapy sessions with residents to address their specific needs, including trauma, mental health disorders, and substance abuse issues. 
    • Provide assessment and diagnosis based on intake interviews and ongoing evaluations. 
    • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on the assessment and goals of each resident. 
    • Monitor resident progress, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and provide feedback to the treatment team. 
  • Group Therapy: 
    • Facilitate group therapy sessions on various topics (e.g., anger management, coping skills, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, etc.). 
    • Foster a safe, supportive environment for residents to share their experiences and engage in therapeutic dialogue. 
    • Address dynamics within the group to ensure a healthy therapeutic environment. 
  • Collaboration: 
    • Work closely with other clinicians, case managers, medical staff, and support staff to coordinate comprehensive care for each resident. 
    • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning meetings, sharing insights on the therapeutic progress of each resident. 
    • Communicate with families or external parties (as appropriate and within confidentiality guidelines) to provide updates and ensure the best interests of the resident. 
  • Crisis Intervention: 
    • Respond to and manage crisis situations involving residents, including emotional outbursts, suicidal ideation, or self-harm behaviors. 
    • Provide de-escalation techniques and support during heightened emotional situations. 
    • Document and report incidents per the center's protocols. 
  • Documentation and Reporting: 
    • Maintain thorough and accurate case notes, treatment plans, progress reports, and other required documentation. 
    • Ensure that all documentation complies with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards. 
    • Prepare reports for treatment reviews, discharge summaries, or any necessary court or legal proceedings. 
  • Treatment Planning and Goal Setting: 
    • Collaborate with residents to set realistic goals for their recovery and therapeutic progress. 
    • Continuously evaluate progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans. 
  • Education and Psychoeducation: 
    • Provide education to residents on coping strategies, mental health awareness, addiction recovery (if relevant), and self-care. 
    • Offer psychoeducational groups that address various aspects of emotional wellbeing and personal growth. 
  • Compliance and Ethical Standards: 
    • Maintain confidentiality of resident information in accordance with HIPAA and ethical guidelines.
    • Adhere to the facility's policies and procedures regarding treatment, documentation, and professional conduct. 
Qualifications: 
  • Education: A Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a related field. 
  • Licensure/Certification: Must be licensed in the state where the residential treatment center is located (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or similar). 
  • Experience: Experience in providing therapy in a clinical setting, preferably with experience in residential treatment centers or working with individuals facing mental health or substance abuse issues.  Skills: 
    • Strong understanding of therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Focused Therapy. 
    • Ability to manage and de-escalate crisis situations. 
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
    • Empathy, patience, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience working in a residential treatment setting. 
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care. 
  • Experience with adolescents, young adults, or other specific populations the RTC may serve (e.g., individuals with substance use disorders, eating disorders, or severe mental health conditions). 
Working Conditions: 
  • Residential treatment centers typically operate 24/7, meaning therapists may be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays. 
  • Therapists may work in both individual offices and larger group settings. 
  • The environment may be fast-paced and can involve high-stress situations, especially during crises or critical moments in a resident’s treatment.
