Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in a GRO is responsible for providing clinical care to residents, ensuring that all medical, psychiatric, and emotional needs are met. The RN will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, and implement individualized care plans for each resident, while also providing ongoing monitoring and education regarding health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Resident Assessment & Care: 
    • Perform initial and ongoing health assessments of residents, including physical and mental health evaluations. 
    • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans, in collaboration with physicians, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals. 
    • Administer medications as prescribed, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with regulations. 
    • Monitor and manage residents' vital signs, lab results, and medical history, making adjustments to care plans as needed. 
    • Provide wound care, administer injections, and perform other medical treatments as required. 
  • Mental Health & Behavioral Support: 
    • Observe and report on residents' mental health and behavioral status, noting any significant changes. 
    • Provide support in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. 
    • Assist in the implementation of therapeutic interventions and behavioral management plans. 
    • Educate residents and families on mental health conditions, medication management, and coping strategies. 
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: 
    • Work closely with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other medical staff to ensure comprehensive care for residents. 
    • Attend and actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss and adjust treatment plans. 
    • Communicate effectively with families, guardians, and outside healthcare providers to coordinate care and provide updates. 
  • Documentation & Compliance: 
    • Accurately document all nursing assessments, interventions, and resident responses in the electronic health record (EHR). 
    • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including medication management, infection control, and resident confidentiality. 
    • Prepare and maintain medical records in accordance with facility policies and legal requirements. 
  • Health Education & Promotion: 
    • Educate residents and staff on health-related topics, including personal hygiene, medication management, healthy lifestyle choices, and self-care strategies. 
    • Promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of residents through individual and group health education programs. 
  • Emergency Response: 
    • Respond promptly to medical emergencies, providing basic life support (BLS) or advanced life support (ALS) as required. 
    • Implement emergency protocols, including notifying physicians, arranging transportation to emergency medical facilities, and providing support during crises. 
Qualifications: 
  • Education: 
    • Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program. 
  • Licensure: 
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment. 
    • CPR and BLS certification (Advanced certifications like ACLS or PALS may be required, depending on facility). 
  • Experience: 
    • Experience in mental health nursing, addiction recovery, or behavioral health settings is preferred. 
    • Previous experience in residential treatment centers, hospitals, or long-term care settings is a plus. 
  • Skills & Abilities: 
    • Strong clinical nursing skills, including the ability to assess and treat a wide range of medical and psychiatric conditions. 
    • Excellent communication skills to work with residents, families, and the multidisciplinary care team. 
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities. 
    • Knowledge of medication administration, therapeutic interventions, and behavioral management techniques. 
  • Other Requirements: 
    • Ability to maintain professional boundaries while forming positive, empathetic relationships with residents. 
    • Comfort with handling challenging behaviors or psychiatric emergencies. 
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts, as needed. 
Physical Demands: 
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods. 
  • Ability to lift or assist with lifting residents if necessary (according to facility protocols). 
  • Visual and auditory acuity for observing patients and administering medications.
